Rational Earth Actions Learning Institute, Thank You
Wind Energy Workshop
October 10-13, 2007
This four day, hands-on wind energy workshop will expose participants to all aspects of wind energy system design and construction. Topics covered will include a wind energy overview; wind resource assessment; turbine site assessment; a review of wind turbines currently on the market; on and off-grid systems; PV/Wind hybrid systems; estimating energy output; case studies; costs and incentives; and local installers.
Participants will also receive a comprehensive collection of wind energy literature and information. A copy of the high-resolution wind map for NC will also be provided, allowing the viewer to select any spot in NC and get comprehensive wind data for that location. The hands-on activities will include the installation of a small-scale wind energy system involving turbine assembly and wiring, tower assembly and erection, and the installation of the balance of system components; installation of wind resource assessment equipment involving the installation of an anemometer, wind vane, temperature sensor, data logger, and tower; and a tour of the Wind Energy Research & Demonstration facility on Beech Mountain.
This four day intensive workshop will be led by Brent Summerville of the North Carolina Small Wind Initiative with headquarters at Appalachian State University. Brent is a Renewable Energy Engineer with extensive experience in wind turbine installations, hands-on workshops, wind turbine testing, consultations and presentations.
More Details, Notes and Registration:
Notice: This session, like all upcoming REALITY Sessions, will be long days, hands-on activities, classroom and campground social activities, limited to the class participants. Think "Bootcamp for the Basics"!
If you expect to sit in an air conditioned hotel conference room and sip iced tea watching Power Points, then REALITY Sessions (of any kind) are NOT for you. Be prepared for long days of intensive instruction, hands on work, travel to wind sites in the region and the opportunity to learn first hand the details of small scale wind systems. And yes, you will get Power Point presentations, too. There is a strict limit of ONLY 15 participants to allow each a full opportunity to get involved. First come, first served. In fact, one seat is already confirmed for this Wind Energy Session, so only 14 SEATS left! Registration fee is $800 per person.
For more details or to register, email to: info@rationalearthactions.net! You will be replied to by email first, then a follow up phone call as needed. Please, we cannot take telephone inquiries for additional basic information, please email!
Your confirmed registration and payment also includes basic camping on-site, breakfast and lunch, a host of related educational materials, directions to our Western North Carolina location and more in the planning. Additional off-site hotel/motel/lodge accommodation is locally available, but not included in your registration fee. Campground is basic camping, currently no hook ups, but with showers and bathhouse included, plus many on site attractions, not mentioned here, that will be privately toured for Session participants only.
