Getting Ready and A Look at REALITY

Veteran Southern Energy & Environment volunteers Ted and Maggie work to spruce up the solar earth sheltered classroom. A touch of paint every 25 years, whether it needs it or not.

The original rammed earth and cordwood greenhouse for the permaculture gardens is still working well, but on the 'to do' list is replacing some of the interior supports for the glazing. Turned out some of the locust posts were not locust posts.

Ned inspects the aloe plant inside the greenhouse during winter, May 4 this year this aloe flowered and grew a stem to pollinate 24" high from the center!

Modified many years ago from the original two story tower to a covered observation deck, the Jack Henstridge Memorial Cordwood Tower still overlooks the valley.

Still standing after 25 years, the cordwood tower needs some touch up and attention, yet stands testament to a great building technique that is very, very hard to make fall down. Renovations to this iconic landmark are planned as part of an intensive cordwood session. Perhaps you missed building it with us, but you might get in on it's quarter century facelift!

The Jacobs windplant still sits atop the home made wind tower, with the tail furled out of the breeze. Plans for re-energizing the system are in the works, with a little luck by the end of this year it could be producing for Green Power in North Carolina.
