A Brief History of REALITY:
The original 622 acre Mother Earth News Eco Village Research Center in Transylvania County, North Carolina, was open to the public from 1979 to 1985. The new REALITY is founded on the same basic principles of renewable energy, green building and sustainable agriculture.
In fact, many of those same projects, such as the solar earth-bermed home, organic gardens, rammed earth cordwood greenhouse, dome, wind plant and more will be utilized in REALITY sessions in the coming year. Portions of the original campground will be re-opened for students, however only during sessions.
The original Eco Village hosted tens of thousands of visitors looking for a simple introduction to sustainability and down-to-earth living. The new REALITY will provide intensive training to those who are ready to learn the details of proven technologies for a sustainable future.
Ned Ryan Doyle, former Coordinator of the original Eco Village programs and current Coordinator of the 7th Annual Southern Energy and Environment Expo, and Jane Shuttleworth, co-founder of the original Mother Earth News Magazine and owner of the Eco Village / REALITY property, are cooperating to 'bring back the basics' with updated, state-of-the-art educational sessions for job training, career advancement, and individuals looking to 'do it themselves' the proven way. And all on the grounds of the nation's first practical, proven sustainability project.
Today, there are dozens of terrific venues nationwide for the curious to discover an introduction to sustainability and related topics, but very few places to find focused, detailed training in these fields. While some may be disappointed that REALITY will not be open for 'drop in' visits to 'see what's up' as in the past, please consider that our efforts will be directed to those who are ready to learn in earnest, not the casual observer. (A listing of many events and venues will be posted here soon for those introductory opportunities, such as the annual S.E.E. Expo www.seeexpo.com).
Reserve Your Seat Today for REALITY Sessions
Announcing the opening of REALITY is easy. Actually getting things ready is a lot of work and expensive. If you've read this far, here's an offer.
You can reserve your seat for any one of the upcoming sessions in 2007, soon to be announced in detail, plus be listed (if you wish) as an Individual Sponsor for 2007, with a deposit of only $250, fully transferable to a session of your choice this year.
REALITY sessions will be limited in class size and it's projected that less than 100 folks will be accepted in all of the 2007 season. Tuitions will range from approximately $500 to $1,000, depending primarily on how many days each session runs. So, by helping REALITY with an early deposit, you'll have an assured reservation of your choice - but only while they last! For more details and a personal reply click here.
Limited Business Sponsorships
Are you with a sustainable business or manufacturer, such as solar systems, wind, system components, energy efficiency or similar? REALITY is looking for a few sponsorships of either equipment or funding to install a number of systems. This is not an ongoing effort to raise money, but an opportunity for a few businesses to invest in a job training center for future employees and an exceptional advertising opportunity of product and services targeted directly to the most motivated audience, as well as the public at large. If you are interested and want more detailed information as to our needs and the return on your investment, please contact Ned Ryan Doyle - click here.

Your comments, input and suggestions are warmly welcomed.
And if you were a part of the original 'Mother' Eco Village crew, please drop a note and let me know how things are going! After all, REALITY today is built on the foundation of your efforts back then.
Sincerely, Ned Ryan Doyle
